Foodie Fieldtrip Friday: Outsider Tart

Today is Labor Day in the U.S.A.  Though I have lived away from America since 2008 I am still keenly aware of all the holidays and traditions that go with it. I miss my family full stop! Thank goodness for FaceTime and especially trips home. But my visits back don’t always coincide with certain holidays and I actually pine for the many activities associated with them.  Okay let’s face it I mainly miss the food associated with the holidays. And to me Labor Day means the end of summer and eating things such as BBQ, pulled pork sandwiches, salads galore, and some gooey, naughty treat!  While I won’t be able to do that today, I did get to recreate an early Labor Day meal recently at the incredible Outsider Tart here in London. Recipe: Woman Crush Wednesday

Today is the 81st episode of Woman Crush Wednesday and you might recognize the honoree. Londoner Sally Butcher is not only well known for her fabulous cookery books, but also her amazing shop in Peckham called Persepolis and the darling cafe that adjoins it. In fact, if you watch my Foodie Fieldtrip Friday segment on my Snapchat (username blissbakery) you won’t be surprised that I have chosen Sally as my WCW. Just two weeks ago I visited and feasted on some of her amazing Persian food.  And I purchased a key ingredient for today’s awesome cooking tutorial. Continue reading

Foodie Fieldtrip Friday: The Future’s So Brighton!

Yep the future’s so Brighton, I gotta wear shades!  A little take on an oldie but a goodie, but that song was in my head when I hit the laptop to share my latest gastronomic expedition with you.  It is hard to believe I have lived in London this long and never made the one hour train journey to Brighton on England’s south coast!  It’s been on my mind to do for ages, but various reasons have always circumvented the plans.  So I was delighted that this week’s Foodie Fieldtrip Friday allowed me to soak up some sun, listen to the crashing waves and indulge in total iconic Brighton Beach eats! Crazy for Canada

Having lived in America most of my life, I’ve been lucky enough to travel  north to Canada on a few occasions. The first was to Montreal in 1987 to film a Suzuki Samurai commercial. I loved what I saw of the city but didn’t get to tour around too much because of work. The second time I visited Canada was to take my son to an ice hockey camp in Logan Lakes. I remember it was gorgeous and woodsy. And my third visit was with Hubby to Vancouver, a very hip and diverse culture with stunning natural beauty. So I was delighted to have the opportunity to return to Canada and soak up as much as I could in one week. Continue reading

Foodie Fieldtrip Friday: Le Cordon Bleu

An epic Foodie Fieldtrip Friday that I won’t ever forget took place in Paris, France at Le Cordon Bleu. I shared in my last blog post (a synopsis of our trip to Paris) that I would need to spend a whole post elaborating on this gastronomic experience.  I have to thank my Hubby for treating me to this Parisian keepsake, a foodie’s equivalent of an expensive designer handbag. Only this is something that I can use and reuse and share with friends, family and customers!  A course at Le Cordon Bleu on classic French sauces, the culinary backbone in fine dining.  I felt I had died and gone to heaven! Foodie Fieldtrip Friday: Food Tours Stockholm

While the name of this fantastic culinary expedition company in Stockholm is called Food Tours it was much more than that. Guided by the amazing Johanna our group of five eager participants learned all about the history of the Sodermalm area as well.  Because it used to be an area where immigrants settled, the food scene is reflected in the myriad of tastes and flavors.  In fact during our four hour tour we journeyed to several continents without ever leaving Sweden!
